Expect More. Pay Less

Hi everyone!

My name is Jessica. This is my 4th semester in the Kutztown MBA program. I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2008 with a BSBA in Finance and Marketing, a minor in economics and an International Business Certificate. I got married this past summer to my amazing husband Matt!

While at Pitt I studied abroad in China and interned at Fedex and at Target. I started with Target full time after graduation. I currently work as an Executive team Leader, much like as assistant manager. I also happen to be the recruiting captain for Kutztown. If anyone is interested in learning more about a career at Target please let me know. You can also check out our website. We are holding mock interviews on campus the last week in september, as well as an internship fair on October 20th and an information session on October 27th. Come and check us out!

Hi Jessica
It sparked my attention when I read that you were living in Pittsburgh. I think Pitt is a nice place. My husband and I lived there for a while when he was doing his graduate studies. I love the city and we made a lots of friends over there. We have some family living in Pitt, so we still go and stay there some days, especially weekends.

Hi Jessica,

You are almost done with the MBA program Congrats! I saw that you had an awesome opportunity to intern at both Target and Fedex. I am sure that you learned a lot from these companies as I see you currently work at Target now. I must say since a Target was built about 10 minutes from my house I always find an excuse to go shopping there ha! Honestly, compared to the other retailers out there Target has such a dynamic and different atmosphere about it. I always find associates to help me and they are very knowledgeable about all the products that are in the store even if it is not in their departments. The training that is done for the associates really impacts their knowledge base and productivity levels. I always see all the employees hustling to get their jobs done, there never seems to be a slow time of day. All the employees seem to really enjoy there jobs. That is something that Target can really take pride in. Just wanted to know how long did it take you to become an executive team leader? Is there always room for advancement within Target? I know at my job in retail, sometimes to advance you end up moving all over state because there is an opening at another store, not your home store which can deter some people from taking the position. Just wondered if that is what happens within Target or could you stay at your home store with advancement within the company.

Jessica, as I'm reading your post, I'm wondering several things. What brought you to the Lehigh area if you were at school in Pittsburgh? Also, do you work for a specific Target store doing you job or more of a corporate type position? You seem to really enjoy what you do enough so that you are also doing that type of work at the universty. I always enjoy hearing how people progress from college with a specific degree into the jobs they enjoy doing.
